1 Peter 4:7 (NASB): The end of all things is near; therefore, be of sound judgment and sober spirit for the purpose of prayer.
There was a time early in my faith that I got wrapped up in the whole end of times thing. I started reading foreign newspapers to see if I could catch a glimpse of what was coming. The longer I have lived out my life of faith and the more that I have read and studied the Bible, the more I have come to the conclusion that the end times is none of my business. Jesus told His disciples that even He did not know the date and time of the end. So, Peter wrote this with the full knowledge of what Jesus said. I think Peter was talking about more immediate ends happening. Peter had lived through enough to know that not only does life come to a sudden end but so do relationships. There are going to be many things in our life that come to an end. Some will be planned, but many will be unexpected. So, how do we cope with the unexpected ends in our life? We build up a strong relationship with Jesus through prayer. We build up a strong relationship with the Holy Spirit through prayer. We order our life around prayer and the relationship with have with God. Things are going to end, and we are going to live through those things. Today, may we start a relationship with Jesus through prayer that strengthens us and those around us.
