Psalm 5:12 (NIV): Surely, LORD, you bless the righteous; you surround them with your favor as with a shield.
The Hebrew word that is translated “righteous” means “just”. It can also mean “lawful”. There are many different ways that we can live our lives. Some of them are reflections of who we are. Some of them are reflections of who we think God is. Then, there are those ways of living our lives that are true expressions of who the LORD our God actually is. Over the years it has been a hard task to distinguish the three from each other. A lot of the times what we think are the righteous ways that we are leading are only the views of ourselves that we have set up as an idol. Other times what we think are righteous ways are a twisting of what God said, or they are ways of taking what we heard and twisting it to make us look like the good one. There is only One who is good, the LORD our God. It is a difficult process to weed out the misconceptions and perversions of our thoughts on God. It is a difficult process to come to see and know the real righteousness of the LORD. Yet God is patient with us in love and understanding. God allows to learn what true righteousness is and to live into it. Today, may we further our love and relationship with the LORD our God in ways that allows others to see the beauty and wonderfulness of a life lead in faith and love.
