Acts 1:8 (NKJV): But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.
The Greek word that is translated “power” means “force”. It specifically refers to miraculous power. This is not a power that we have naturally. We are not born with the power to perform miracles. We do not just wake up one day with a power that we have grown into that accomplishes the miraculous. That power alone rests with God. That power alone is God’s to give as a gift. That power alone requires a relationship with God. I can say about myself that there have been many times through my life that I thought I could do it on my own. I thought in my own power that I could accomplish certain things. What I found out is that the power that was needed was not in me to begin with. I have strength to accomplish worldly things. I, however, lack the strength to accomplish Kingdom things. It is not my first response to forgive and love others; I am more about getting back what was lost. I am very much about how you treat me is how I am going to treat you. There is no grace in that. There is no mercy in eye for an eye thinking. I so desperately need the Holy Spirit to come alive in me to assist me to live out the Gospel of Jesus, instead of living out of the spite and envy in my heart. I desperately need the Holy Spirit to come alive in me when all I want to do is be spiteful and get my revenge. I desperately need the Holy Spirit to come alive in me so that I can live out the agape love of Christ Jesus. Today, may I get out of the way of the Holy Spirit trying live in me, through me, and for me.
