Proverbs 19:16 (NKJV): He who keeps the commandment keeps his soul, but he who is careless of his ways will die.
The Hebrew word translated “he who keeps” means “to hedge about (with thorns), ie. guard”. The word translated “commandment” is the word used to represent The Law. The more I read the Bible the more I see God’s invitation to us to live our lives with the LORD. God is continually inviting us into a life lived with LORD. God is constantly pursing us to come be a part of the Kingdom. Not just an occasional resident in the Kingdom, but an eternal resident of the Kingdom. God is continually asking us to be a part of something that is far greater than ourselves. Today’s verse is a reminder that life is something that we get to choose. It is a reminder that our choices have consequences. How we choose will decide if we live eternal or die. But we are given every chance to choose life. Even in the times we choose wrong, we are given forgiveness and mercy and given a chance to still be a part of eternity. Today, let us not be careless with what we guard and protect, but let us intentionally choose the LORD our God’s invitation to live in the Kingdom for eternity.
