Matthew 12:36 (NKJV): But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment.
The more I read the words of Jesus the more I become convinced that Jesus cares about what our intentions are and how that plays out when we interact with people. Jesus is not just concerned with the “big” things that happen to us each day; Jesus is also concerned about all the little mundane things we experience each day. All the little social interactions that we have each day are not throw away moments to Jesus. Even those brief little moments of interaction with a stranger are important to Jesus. What words we choose to use with others is important to Jesus. How we non-verbally interact with others is important to Jesus. There is not aspect of our lives that is unimportant to Jesus. I think that when we realize that we are to approach each day with the intention of being more like Jesus and living out our faith in the Gospel, then we will start treat people differently. We will start to choose words that are not meaningless and instead are chosen because of our faith in the agape love of Jesus. We will start to choose actions that show others they are important to the Living God. We will start to choose the movement of the Holy Spirit in our lives. Today, may we start to put away the things that are idle and keep us from experiencing the agape love of Christ Jesus.
